The Republic of Armenia is a mountainous country. 76.5% of the area is located at an altitude of 1,000-2,500m above sea level. Mountain ranges cover 47% of the total area of the republic, highlands make up more than a third of the country's surface.

In most regions of the country the winter rainfall is 4-6 months with constant snow cover. Having such climatic conditions, the Republic of Armenia can really be considered one of the countries with great potential for the development of skiing. Taking into account the above mentioned as well as based on the objective to popularize and develop ski sports in Armenia the Armenian Ski Federation launches the "Ski sports in Schools" pilot program.

The overall objective of the project is to replace the Physical Education class with ski training classes in the snowy regions of Armenia during the winter season. The curricula of the Physical Education subject for the schools in the mentioned regions will be changed, the physical education lesson will be transferred to the last lesson and will be conducted as ski training.

For the first stage, the program envisages to include the students of the 4th grade from each of the 10-14 basic schools in the Snowy regions of the Republic.

It is planned to conduct theoretical-practical courses for teachers-instructors.

Each lesson will be videotaped for video lessons to be posted on a YouTube channel. The video courses will be available to all physical education teachers, ski instructors and coaches. Representatives of the Federation and the ski clubs members will assist the teachers in the regions they represented or are located. At the end of each winter season a meeting with the participating organizations, individuals, parents and other interested organizations will be organized to discuss the successes and shortcomings of the project which will serve as basis for further improvement of the Program to be submitted to the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports for the popularization and development of ski sports in Armenia.
