Meet the Judges - Satu Kalajainen

British Airways
In the third and final installment of the 'Meet the Judges' FIS SnowKidz news takes the time to acquaint the snow sports community with British Airways Key Account Manager for Baltics and Nordic regions and prominent Finnish snow sports personality, Satu Kalajainen.

As very active sports enthusiast Satu began her passion for sports summer and winter at a very young age. As a junior she competed in track and field and was ranked 6th in Finland for Javelin. Her connection with snow sports started at the tender age of 3ish years old when she began Cross-Country skiing in her homeland, Finland. She participated in her first competition at the age of 4 and following a successful competitive career she transitioned into management. She became president of her local ski club in 1995 and held the position until 2000. Following on from this she became a board member of the Finnish National Ski Association in 2001 all whilst extending her career with British Airways. In 2007 Satu was elected chairwoman of the FIS Sub Committee for Cross-Country Youth and Children’sQuestions and holds this position to date.

When asked about what the FIS SnowKidz Award means to her, she commented ‘I am truly impressed by how far the FIS SnowKidz Award and overall the FIS SnowKidz program has come. Not only are Organizers creating events but the platform has enabled the best practices of bringing children to the snow to be shared in fun and constructive manner. The FIS SnowKidz Award is really an award that recognizes the efforts of Organisers bringing children to the snow at the a grassroots level. It is an absolute pleasure to be a judge for the 2014 Award'.
