Europa-Park bring ALL children to the snow

06. December 2023
With more than 6 million visitors, Europa-Park Rust is one of the world largest amusement parks and has won numerous awards. Since 2016, the DSV Skitty World Nordic has been located there during the winter season. Children without previous knowledge can gain their first experience in cross-country skiing under professional supervision. Skis, boots and poles are provided free of charge thanks to the support of Fischer and Leki.

Over the last years the event has been adding a children’s Para-Nordic Day. This action day is dedicated to children with physical and intellectual disabilities. For the 2023 edition, the Badische Sportbund Freiburg had invited 20 children with disabilities to the park to make their first attempts on skis.

To support the children, the German national coach Ralf Rombach and his team of trainers were on site. For the outstanding performance of his still young team at the World Championships in Östersund/Sweden, Ralf Rombach was awarded the title "Para Coach of the Year 2023". The coaches were accompanied by Leonie Walter and Linn Kazmaier from Rombach's world champion team. Both are multiple medalists in Para cross-country skiing and biathlon. Of course, Skitty, after whom the technical parkour is named after and mascot of the German Ski Association (DSV), was also present.

After the day, parents were able to obtain comprehensive information about the offers in the field of para nordic skiing from the professionals.

Paralympic winter sports must become more attractive to athletes and the public. This is of particular interest to the FIS, as it has also taken over the overall management of Para Snowsports last year. A first step has been taken with the Para Ski Nordic action day at Europa-Park. We hope for many more successful days of action.
